  • Tuesdays at 7:30 (Free) the (unfortunately named) ISIS Restaurant and Music Hall presents a bluegrass host band, followed by a jam session with local musicians.
  • Wednesdays at 5:00PM. Various old-time musicians at Jack of the Wood on Patton Ave Asheville, NC, 828/252-5445
    Note: Old-Time Mountain Music is the precursor to Bluegrass
  • Thursdays at 7:00PM: Local bluegrass musicians at Jack of the Wood Brew Pub, 95 Patton Ave. Asheville, NC 828/252-5445
  • Thursday at 7:00PM: Bobby Hicks hosts an open jam at the Zuma Coffee House,7 N. Main in Marshall 828-649-1617.
  • Fridays, 6 pm. Traditional mountain music at the old train depot on Main Street in Marshall (282 S. Main). Free/Donation.
    • NOTE: (Once you get to Main Street in either Marshall, you can’t miss these events – just look for a crowd or ask anyone you see).

  • Raymond Fairchild’s Maggie Valley Opry, open weekends April and May, then every night starting Memorial Day weekend through September in Maggie Valley 828-926-9336. (This was my first experience of mountain music and clogging when I first came to the mountains in 2000! Incredible! – Kaye)
  • Historic Johnson Farm Festival 3346 Haywood Road, Hendersonville.

Theater

  • Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina. Season season starts in April. Don’t miss the Music on the Rock series.

Outdoors

  • Along with all the great hiking in our area this time of year, fishing seasons opens on the first Saturday and our creek (Clear Creek) is stocked with fish.
  • Hickory Nut Gorge’s 19-mile yard (Gerton to Rumbling Bald) sale takes place in 2016 on Saturday April 16.

  • Saluda Arts Festival, Historic Downtown Saluda, May 21, 10am-4pm, exhibits are a diversity of art media from local and regional artists, demonstrations, children’s art tent & music.
  • Rhythm and Brews first concert of the season is May 19th in downtown Hendersonville, featuring Major and the Monbacks.

  • Weaverville Arts Safari. About an hour from Clear Creek Cabins. Free self-guided driving tour of artists’ studios. (May 7-8 2016)

  • Bluff Mountain Music Festival . Hot Springs, about 1.5 hours from Clear Creek Cabins. A beautiful drive from the cabins. Free
  • Shindig on the Green starts up about July 4th, some years in late June. Downtown Asheville, about 45 minutes from Clear Creek Cabins. Held almost every Saturday from July 4th weekend (or before) to Labor Day weekend, except the weekend of the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival. Starts about sundown. Free.

  • The Cradle of Forestry’s Songcatcher Music Series, Sunday afternoons (2-4:30 PM) in July – be sure to catch Sheila Kay Adams if she is there! Picnics welcome.
  • Mondays: Street Dances, 201 South Main Street, Hendersonville. Free, bring a chair.
  • Saturdays (except the Saturday of Bele Chere): Shindig on the Green in downtown Asheville (Martin Luther King Park).
  • The Swannonnoa Gathering Faculty Concerts take place in July and August. Sometimes a little hard to find out about, but keep trying, they are well worth it.
